Shamans of old were healers of body and soul. They found that many of our ailments can be traced to a form of "soul loss" where we've been wounded and effected in some way that resulted in a part of us, a part of our "soul" becoming disconnected and not present. This results in a loss of power, vitality and well-being, both physically and emotionally. And so we go for some mainstream counselling to "talk" about our problems and woes and maybe get some "cognitive therapy"...a lot of "head" stuff when we really need some "soul" stuff.
Don't get me wrong...that is useful...but it rarely goes deep enough to get at the core problem. The core of who we are as soul. It's at the level of soul where we need to do the healing work. This is where the wisdom of shamanism is seriously needed today.
