The Seasons of Childhood: Why The Rites of Passage and Knowing Their Heritage Is Important

3kidsIs this the little girl I carried?
Is this the little boy at play?

I don't remember growing older
When did they?

When did she get to be a beauty?
When did he grow to be so tall?

Sunrise, Sunset, Sunrise, Sunset
Swiftly fly the years
One season following another
Laden with happiness and tears....*

As the mother of two grown sons, I relate to that theme from Fiddler On The Roof. Raising a child is filled with joy and sadness and guiding them through the seasons of life over and over again. It isn't easy these days to raise happy, healthy kids!  Where do we get the right advice?  Are you:

  • Confused? Can't keep up with her constant mood swings?
  • Fearful? Wondering why he won't talk to you anymore?
  • Sad? Missing the closeness you once shared?
  • Do you WISH you had someone with experience to learn from?

Well, you are in luck, this week's Messages, Meaning and Money is all about you and raising kids "up-right!"  Sharon is joined by Janet Allison is founder of Boys Alive! [www.BoysAlive.com] and Rites of Passage [www.RitesOfPassageEvent.com] for the opening segment of the show. Sharon and Janet will share with you:

  • how to stay connected with your child even when you feel him/her pulling away
  • how to prepare them for the transition from childhood to becoming a young adult
  • what is a passage and why do they need a 'Rite of Passage' and what happens if they don't have it

Then during our Business Success section, we will hear from Deanna Bufo Novak. She is the author of My Heritage Book and ABCs Around the World and founder of their publisher, kidsHeritage, Inc. a company that creates personalized children's books celebrating heritage and cultural diversity called My Heritage Book. [www.myheritagebook.com]

During our time together with Deanna, we will learn:
